DINNER PLANNER GUIDE

Plan dinner without the extra work

This is a shared, dinner-first planner: save familiar meals once, then plan a weeknight in a few taps. The examples below use fictional test meals, so names and dates in your planner will look different.

Quick orientation: tap a day to plan it, use Meals to manage the reusable library, and use this ? whenever you want a refresher.

1Start with the shared household

On a new browser, choose Cara or Chad. This is not an account or a login—it remembers who is currently adding meals and notes, and shows that person as their author.

  • Use the two names in the header to switch the current parent at any time.
  • Tap ⚙ to rename the household members who appear in rating rows, and to choose Match selected person, Cara, Chad, or Neutral styling.
  • The parent choice and the household-member names are separate things.
2Read and rearrange the week

The Week screen is Monday through Sunday. Today is called out; use the arrows to browse, then use Return to this week when it appears.

A populated Dinner Planner week with individual meal chips and drag handles on current and future days.
Each planned meal has its own chip. Moving one keeps its day notes attached, and you can move it onto a day that already has dinner planned.
  • Tap a day card or its chevron to open that day’s dinner sheet.
  • Tap the basket beside the week dates to add or remove this week’s farm-box items.
  • Press and hold a day card to reveal saved meal and day notes without opening the sheet.
  • With a mouse, drag a meal chip to another day. On a phone, drag its dotted handle. Hold near the top or bottom of the week to scroll while moving.
  • With a keyboard, focus the handle, press Enter or Space, use the arrow keys, then press Enter or Space again. Escape cancels.
  • Any planned meal can move to another day in the visible week, including past or reviewed dinners. Its notes and review stay attached. An ! marker means the day has saved notes.
3Plan a dinner, then manage its slots

An empty day opens directly to search and add. A day that already has meals keeps those meals in front; tap Add a meal to reveal the search list.

A cropped populated day sheet showing planned meal rows, their action icons, and the Add a meal control.
Each planned occurrence has its own row, so a night can contain multiple dinners or the same meal twice.
  1. Search the meal library, then tap a meal to add it immediately.
  2. If it is new, use Create a new meal. A name is the only required detail.
  3. Tap the crate beside Dinner loadout to double-check this week’s farm-box items without leaving the day.
  4. Expand a planned row for its notes and, when available, its direct dinner review.
  5. Use the pencil to edit the reusable meal, the recipe icon to read its recipe, and × to remove just that slot. You can also swipe a planned row left, or use Clear all meals this day for the whole day.

Two kinds of notes: Meal notes follow that reusable meal everywhere it is planned. Day notes belong only to this one planned occurrence. Both retain the parent who added them and can be removed individually.

4Use the reusable meal library

Tap Meals in the bottom navigation to search every active meal, add one from scratch, or open a meal’s details. Rows show planning history and saved meal-note totals.

A cropped Meals library view with the search field, meal rows, and an archived meals section.
The library stays simple: a meal only needs a name. Archived meals are kept safely out of new plans but remain visible in past plans.
  • The library is alphabetical. The day picker uses taste memory and recency to put promising choices first.
  • Archive meals you no longer use instead of deleting them. Restore them from the Archived meals section.
  • Meal renaming and permanent deletion are not part of the current planner.
5Remember what the kids actually eat

Inside a meal, set an optional signal for each household member: 👍 Usually eats it, 🤷 Hit or miss, or 👎 Currently not eating it. Tap the selected signal again to clear it.

A cropped meal editor with reusable meal notes, a recipe attachment, and three taste-memory choices for each household member.
Taste signals are optional guidance. They improve suggestions; they never block you from planning a meal.
6Attach and read a recipe

Each reusable meal can have one optional recipe. Start with Create and add a recipe when making a meal, or choose Attach a recipe link later from the meal editor.

  1. Paste a public recipe webpage and tap Find recipe.
  2. Review the detected title, source, ingredient, and method counts before saving.
  3. Open the saved recipe from a meal or planned-day recipe icon to read ingredients, steps, timing, yield, and the original page.

Recipe import intentionally uses only the publisher’s Recipe JSON-LD. It does not use AI extraction, scrape recipe images, bypass paywalls, or automate a browser. A page without complete usable recipe data cannot be imported yet.

7Review a dinner when it is fresh

When an eligible past dinner needs a memory update, the Quick Memory card appears above the week. Give each household member a rating to update their taste memory.

A cropped Quick Memory card with two household-member rating rows and a Nothing changed button.
Use the same three ratings from the meal editor, or say that nothing changed.
  • A direct review inside an expanded past-day meal slot completes that specific occurrence automatically only after every current household member has rated it.
  • Nothing changed completes every eligible planned meal for the prompted date without changing taste memory.
  • The × on Quick Memory does the same; it is not a temporary “remind me later.”
8Use it together on a phone
  • Changes from another open phone appear automatically. The planner avoids replacing an active note or feedback edit while someone is typing.
  • Every bottom sheet closes with its ×, or by pulling down from the handle or title area.
  • Use the Week and Meals tabs at the bottom instead of relying on a browser back button.
  • The app can be installed from your browser’s normal home-screen/install control. It is shared on the home network by default and does not add personal accounts.
  • If you see PREVIEW DATA · SAFE TEST MODE, you are in the isolated test copy rather than the household’s live planner.
